Hematopoietic Stem Cells (HSC’s)

Blood (Cord Blood and Peripheral Blood) and bone marrow contains hematopoietic stem cells, and these can form blood cells such as red blood cells, white blood cells and platelets. Hematopoietic stem cells are used to treat many benign and malignant diseases.

Mesenchymal Stem Cells (MSC’s)

Mesenchymal stem cells are multipotent cells which can differentiate to form variety of cell types which includes Myocytes (Muscle cells), osteoblasts (bone cells), chondrocytes (cartilage cells) and adipocytes (fat cells).

Embryonic Stem Cells (ESC’s)

Embryonic stem cells are derived from inner cell mass of embryos. These cells give rise all three germ layers ectoderm, endoderm and mesoderm. These will self-renew and differentiate to give rise other cell types. With the presence of fetal bovine serum, these cells are grown in mouse fibroblasts.

Induced Pluripotent Stem Cells (iPSc’s)

The functional cells such as skin or blood cells are reprogrammed to form embryonic like cells are called Induced pluripotent stem cells which can able to differentiate any type of cells for therapeutic purpose. Global current research focus is to differentiate iPSC’s to become beta islet cells to treat diabetes, new blood cells for cancer treatment or new neurons for neurological disorders.
